CLAYTON — An automotive body repair shop on East Line Road is trying to add a paint booth to its services.
Nathan J. Phinney plans to add a 36-foot-by-36-foot addition to the back of Phin's Fender & Body Shop, 14796 County Route 3.
"It will be connected to the shop," Mr. Phinney told the Jefferson County Planning Board during its meeting Tuesday afternoon. "It will be a drive-through booth with an overhead door on each end."
Board member Dean P. Gillan asked about the ventilation.
Mr. Phinney said the paint booth would have separate ventilation with a filter. He wouldn't use enough paint to require a certificate from the state Department of Environmental Conservation, he said.
The addition requires a small commercial enterprise special permit from the town Planning Board, county Senior Planner Michael J. Bourcy said. That will require six or seven new parking spaces.
"It's not really a traditional small enterprise — there's not a lot of in-and-out traffic," he said. "The local board should ensure that there are enough spaces for an auto body shop and paint booth."
The county board also heard the following plans:
■ A used-car business by Brian Magovney to move into 21301 County Route 202 in the former New Attitude salon in the small plaza at Route 202 and Route 3 in the town of Watertown.
■ A parking lot expansion at the Fairgrounds YMCA, 585 Rand Drive.
■ A zoning law amendment to allow alcohol breweries in the light industrial district in the city of Watertown, which would allow Sackets Harbor Brewing Co. to pursue a brewery in City Center Industrial Park.
■ An automobile repair shop by Scott Flitcroft in an existing garage at Lester Road and Route 3 in the town of Rutland.
The board determined that all of the projects were of local concern and sent them back to the local boards for final decisions.
